If a salesperson approaches you at home, over the phone or in a public place, then the law gives you at least a 10 day cooling off period to change your mind.
My understanding of the law is that even if you invited the salesperson into your home to give you a quote, if you had no intention of signing up there and then, but expected to consider the quote in your own time, then the cooling off period also applies.
If you have accepted a contract and it was not an 'unsolicited sale', then you are bound by the terms of the agreement, as long as it complies with Australian Consumer Law (be aware that many sales contracts in Australia do not comply!).
You can read more about your rights when solar sales people knock on your door on my blog here and direct from the ACCC here.
