How does SolarQuotes make money?
SolarQuotes makes money by charging solar companies (who have been heavily vetted by me personally) for referrals to website visitors like you.
If you press the big red 'get quotes' button and submit your details, you - as a potential solar customer - get the quotes for free, but the solar companies in the SolarQuotes network pay us a small fee if we send them your quote request. We get paid whether you choose to buy solar from them or not. That’s how we stay independent.
The solar installers that we accept into our referral network:
- do not pay us a membership fee
- do not have to commit to a minimum spend
- do not pay us a commission on any sales
They simply pay us $39 + GST per standard solar customer that we refer to them (full list of prices at the bottom of this article). That's it.
Do you pay more by using a solar installer referred by SolarQuotes?
The only extra cost to the solar installer who sends you a quote for solar through SolarQuotes is $39. This compares very favourably with alternatives such as newspaper advertising, Google advertising etc.
But please be aware: SolarQuotes is not intended to be the place to find the cheapest solar system on the market. We know that the cheapest systems on the market are a false economy, and we would not put them on our roofs. SolarQuotes is a place to find great installers that will install quality at a competitive price.
The nature of our quotes service - with multiple installers providing competing quotes to one customer - means that installers must provide great hardware, great service and be competitive on price to win your business.
Getting new customers costs solar installers money. SolarQuotes is a low cost way for good installers to grow. That helps keep Australian solar amongst the best value in the world.
We all know that many things in Australia are crazy expensive compared to the rest of the world. Just look at the cost of cars and houses! But did you know that, happily, Australian solar is in the amongst the cheapest in the world (yes - even the quality stuff).
We are proud to be part of the reason Australians can enjoy great value solar power. Read on to discover why...
Getting a regular flow of new customers costs a solar business money whether they advertise on the radio, in the paper, online, on the telly, via letterbox drops, using door-knockers etc.
At SolarQuotes, we make life easier (and cheaper!) for solar installers, because by selling quote requests to them directly, we reduce (or remove) their need to spend money on advertising and associated marketing staff.
If an installer using SolarQuotes makes one sale for every 5 quotes written, and pays $39 per quote, they will spend approx $200 to get a sale through our service.
Compare that to the United States where right now US solar companies can easily pay a mind boggling $5000 to acquire a sale. If Australian companies paid that, the cost of a 5kW solar system in Australia could easily double.
The low cost of 'customer acquisition' in Australia is one big reason why you can get great value solar.
One other way we get income is, if you explicitly ask to be referred to our finance partner, Parker Lane, and sign up for a financial product through them, we get a commission on that loan/product. Parker Lane will explicitly disclose this if you choose to use them. This is a tiny part of our business, less than half a percent of revenue at time of writing. The main reason we refer people to Parker Lane is that we genuinely believe they offer the best service of any solar finance company we have dealt with. And we strongly believe that solar is a good deal with a low rate loan.
