I am moving house - can I take my solar system with me.

Short answer: It is usually not possible to do this - due to updated Australian Standards. And even if you can do it legally - it will almost certainly be cheaper to buy a brand new solar system than remove and reinstall your existing system.

Longer explanation: The Australian Standards for inverter and solar panel requirements change frequently The last change was late 2016 (AS 4777.2 inverter requirements).

If the Australian Standards have changed since your solar system was installed then if you were to remove it and re-install it - it would have to be brought up to the latest inverter, panel and installation standards.

Most systems installed before 2016 would require at least a new inverter, many would need new panels.

So the chances are that your existing solar system cannot be legally reinstalled without expensive upgrades. Upgrades that would probably be more expensive than buying a new system!

This alone makes it almost certainly cheaper to install a new system, than move your old system

Even if your system is bang up to date and needs no upgrades to bring it up to standard, the labour costs of removing the old system, patching up any holes, transporting it safely and reinstalling it on a different building, will almost certainly be more than buying a new system.

Remember that the current rebate actually covers most if not all of the cost of being the solar panels. The price you pay - covers the inverter, racking and installation.

I have yet to see a situation where it makes sense to remove, and reinstall an existing solar system.
