Q. I have got solar and I'm not convinced that I'm on a good deal for my electricity exports. How do I compare solar feed in tariffs available in my postcode?
A. You use this tool:
https://www.solarquotes.com.au/energy/
This tool features all the feed in tariffs we can find in your area. We may have missed some because there are thousands of tariffs across Australia. But I honestly believe that it is a very comprehensive comparison.
The quick and dirty way to browse Feed In Tariffs available to you is to first enter your postcode and select your system size:
Then you'll see a list of electricity plans available in your area.
By default, the tool will sort by the lowest typical annual bill. To sort by feed-in tariff - simply click that heading:
Voila - a list of Feed In Tariffs from highest to lowest!
Things to note:
1. The highest Feed In Tariffs are not necessarily the best deals. They often have higher usage charges. The best way to work out the best deal for you is to wait for your first full quarter's bill after solar. Then come back to this tool and select the "advanced" tab near the top, and enter your details.
Then the tool will show you which tariff would have given you the lowest bill for the quarter.
2. This tool does not show Time Of Use (ToU) tariffs - just flat rate tariffs. I can't see many situations where a solar owner would be better off on ToU. And ToU makes life really complicated. Electricity bills are confusing enough. So we leave ToU tariffs out. You can learn more about ToU tariffs, flat-rate tariffs and solar here.
