I need to replace one or more panels on an existing solar system but the exact panel model is no longer available.

If your original installer/solar company is still around - then let them find and install suitable replacement panels.

If your original installer/solar company is no longer around then you'll have to do some legwork.

If you have used a big solar brand, (e.g Trina, Jinko, LG etc) it is likely that their Australian office has a stock of spares.

So call the Australian office of the panel manufacturer and ask their advice.

If you used an obscure brand with no Australian office then it is more difficult.

If you have a solar system that is more than 2 years old and did not get a big brand, it is likely that the exact panel model used is no longer available.

But don't panic. You can use a different model and manufacturer of panel as a replacement. 

I cannot advise you what type of panel can be used as a drop in replacement though.

You need to engage a Clean Energy Council accredited designer to look at the existing system design including:

• how the panels are wired
• the existing panel specifications
• the inverter(s) used

Only then can they work out a suitable replacement panel that will work well with what you have already got.

Do not let your insurance company decide what panels you should use - they are not qualified!
